What to Expect

A typical sleep training and consultation session

Your consultant will arrive in your home at agreed time and meet you and your child(ren). This time together is crucial in accurately assessing the situation and getting a feel for your child and their needs as well as your own wishes, anxieties and preferences.

Each child is unique, yours may be excitable, developmentally advanced, placid or just plain over tired! Each of these will inform the approach we use together to encourage improved sleep.

Once an understanding of you and your child is established we will take a look at sleeping environments and we may make some changes together, lighting, stimulation, cot/ bed positioning. Then usually set up a video baby monitor that will enable observation of your child in home while settling and sleeping and allow the opportunity to share with you the things to look out for in terms of communication, body language and often unexpected signs of settling.

You consultant will be with you to guide you through appropriate settling techniques and tips for ensuring improved sleep from our session together. My sleep coaching methods and approaches show positive results within 5 days/nights and very often within the first 1-2!

Once your child is asleep we will discuss further issues, Your consultant will be able to advise and put plans in place with you for all aspects of child care- behaviour, feeding, diet and nutrition, potty training, routines and developmental advance.

Each of my packages includes a period of remote support where your consultant is available to you via phone and email.

All approached are tailored to your needs; packages, options, approaches and any additionalextras are all flexible and informed by you.

Will sleep training harm my baby?

My approach is sleep training- without trauma but further to that… A total of 13 different studies considered the result of the sleep training methods I advocate and teach, not only in regard to the better quality of sleep for the baby, but also in regard to other behavioural issues such as crying, irritability, detachment, self esteem, and emotional well being. Five of these studies based their conclusions on parental feedback, the remaining eight relied on professional observation. None of the studies found any adverse effects and in fact, babies who participated in these sleep training methods were found to be more secure, predicable, less irritable, and would cry and fuss less following training.

What do you actually do that makes my baby sleep better?

This very much depends on your baby/child, the extent of the issue and whether there are medical issues such as reflux/ colic or developmental considerations to be taken into account such as separation anxiety. All planned techniques will be discussed with you at each stage and before any sleep training takes place. The needs of your baby and your own preferences are at the centre of our work together.

Where will the consultant stay for overnight work?

Although sleeping isnt actually what the consultants are there to do during sleep training nights the most restorative rest occurs when laying down each consultant brings their own put up bed and own bedding and pillow. Anywhere the bed will fit we are happy to be..

What happens during mealtimes?

Consultants will always have a main meal prior to a sleep training so catering is not an issue. Your usual meal plans will not be disturbed.
